Tsuchiura is a second year as well as Kahoko's friend. He and Kahoko met after he ran into her, nearly knocking her down a staircase, saving her just in time in episode 1. Their friendship eventually grows, and she even confesses to him that she knew nothing of playing the violin.

He is a very gifted pianist but quit playing in public because of an unpleasant experience at a competition because of the judges’ discrimination of younger contestants. After he assisted Kahoko in the first round of the concours by being her accompanist, he, as well, joined the concours.

In the past, he had a girlfriend called Mizue Sakamoto, and in episode 14, they met again by accident at the train station with Kahoko and Tsukimori.Tsuchiura is the star of the soccer team; he is the team midfielder. He is very skilled at the sport and even outdoing some third year students. Even so, Mizue said that he was skilled in both basketball and soccer, which Mizue points out that whenever he plays, there will always be girls cheering for him. As told by Mizue, he is also in the basketball club when they were in middle school.He does not like Tsukimori, and they often get into many disagreements. One of their arguments can even start from a notebook to their style of performance.His feelings for Hino gradually deepen as the series progresses and going as far as secretly calling her Kaho during the quintet’s performance.His mother is a piano teacher, revealed through Minami's conversation with Kahoko in the anime. He also has a younger brother and is good at cooking.

Ichigo is a 15-year-old who attempts to cultivate a detached image, for which he keeps his eyebrows constantly furrowed. Ichigo has natural orange hair, a fact that annoys many bullies in his school, who constantly pick fights with him. Ichigo claims that he does not care what others think and seems to enjoy fighting the bullies. Ichigo has been friends with Tatsuki Arisawa since he was young when he trained karate at the same dojo as her. Tatsuki is his oldest friend and they go to the same school now. While in junior high school, Ichigo met and befriended Yasutora "Chad" Sado, a boy from another school who helped him out of a fight. Chad, although extremely strong, was often the target of beatings because he refused to fight for his own sake due to a promise he had made as a child to his grandfather. Upon discovering this, Ichigo made a pact with Chad in which they both agreed to fight and risk their lives for something the other was willing to risk their life for. Ichigo comments that thanks to Rukia his life changed, and thanks to her he is able to protect the people he cares for. Ichigo's blunt personality, aggressive behavior, and short temper give the impression that he is a rude person. In the episode 25 of the anime, Nadeshiko is revealed to be a boy named Nagihiko Fujisaki. It is a tradition in the Fujisaki family for the males to be raised as females as part of their training so that they may play female roles in Japanese dance. He reveals himself as Nadeshiko's "twin brother" to Amu. The only people who knows Nagihiko's secret besides his family are Kukai, Daichi,Tadase , Kiseki, and the school's principal Tsukasa Amakawa (and later, Rima).

After Kairi Sanjo left, he returns to Japan and Seiyo Academy in his true identity and becomes appointed as the new Jack's Chair.

To most people, he is called "Nagi".

Rima Mashiro replaces Nadeshiko Fujisaki as the new "Queen's Chair" of The Guardians. Although Rima is the same age as Amu Hinamori, she is extremely petite and has relatively poor athletic ability. Most of the boys in her class admire her because of her beauty and passive personality, while the girls are annoyed by her because of her arrogance. Some call her "The Goddess of Comedy".

After seeing how Amu worked hard to cleanse X Eggs, she began to join in with athletic activities. Slowly, she develops a close relationship with the Guardians. She was nearly kidnapped once, and because of that her parents always worry and take her home everyday after school.

Rima has blondish-brownish hair with a black hair-band with a small ribbon in the middle attached to it and golden-honey yellow eyes. Her hair is so long that it goes down to her waist.

Her cute appearance somehow resembles that of an elegant English lady.

She "fake-cried" when she knew that Nadeshiko was Amu's best friend. Though Nagihiko is the only one who can see right through it.

Tadase Hotori

Tadase Hotori is a main character of Shugo Chara!. He is the leader of The Guardians, also known as the "King's Chair". He is in the same year as Amu Hinamori, the main character of the series. Though he acts confident and nice in front of others, he is actually very timid and shy. It's his dream to be the king of the world.

Utau is a 14-year-old junior high student model turned singing idol. Utau Hoshina is actually only her stage name, since her actual name is Utau Tsukiyomi , and is Ikuto's younger sister. She repeatedly tries to win her brother's affection, and thus becomes extremely agitated when she notices that Ikuto is interested in Hinamori Amu. However, she eventually becomes friends with Amu. Utau was both independent artiste and the vocalist of the indie band "Black Diamond", produced by her manager, Sanjo Yukari , as a method of using the CDs of their music to draw the eggs out of children and make them into X-Eggs. When the plan fell apart, Utau quit Easter Company with her manager and became a singer on her own, without Easter contracting her.

Yuiki Yaya is the childish girl serving as the Ace's Chair and is one year junior to Amu . Yaya wants to be a baby forever so her parents would give her more love then her younger brother. She is also a ballerina, though a good one, but also a rather clumsy one. Amu Hinamori grew up with a tough outside character and everyone in school addresses her as "Cool and Spicy", but deep down she is extremely shy and timid. One of the reasons that she has this image is because her mother dresses her in punk and cool clothing. Since she has a stubborn character, fans call Amu a tsundere, but is properly classified as a kuudere. One night, she became tired of everybody viewing her outside character and made a wish to be someone other than herself. The next morning, she finds three odd looking eggs on her bed. The eggs hatch one after another and give birth to her Guardian Character Ran. Miki and Suu. Later a forth Guardian Character Dia.

When Tadase Hitori, the King's Chair of the Guardian of Seiyo Academy, discovers her eggs, he invites her into their team and give her the title "Joker". Though she doesn't want to join the team at first, she eventually gives in after realizing how serious the situation is. As the person with three Guardian Characters, Amu is given the Humpty Lock with mystical powers and so receives the ability to Character Transform.

Though she does not know her true self very well, she appears to be rather determined when it comes to helping others. But as Dia indicates, she needs to know herself better in order to be able to do any good at all.

In the second season of the anime, she begins to develop her own character and so increases her own powers. The most direct example of this is the new items & skills of the three Amulet character transformations. Also, though she can't see it very well, those around her notice that she has changed.

One year senior to Amu, Kukai helps Amu with her training as the Joker. Although he was the captain of the soccer club, Kukai loves and excels at all sports. At the end of the school year, Kukai graduates and goes on to middle school. However, Kukai returns to visit the Guardians now and then to assist them. As a sporty kid, he has an outgoing personality, and also a sense of justice. He is very competitive and sometimes competes with Amu and Nadeshiko.He would visit the Guardians sometimes and help out in battle.Kukai has a grandfather living in a temple on the mountains. In a much later time, he is revealed to have four older brothers named Kaidou, Shuusui, Unkai and Rento.Kaidou is always pushy and harsh to him, but that turns out to be their way of communicating and playing. As Sky Jack, he wears the green outfit of a pilot with pilot goggles with a star on his left of the pilot headband. He also wears black boots.

  Kyo is a stubborn, hot-headed boy. He is easily provoked and angered in any situation. As with most of the Sohma clan, Kyo is cursed with becoming an animal of the Zodiac when hugged by someone of the opposite gender. His Zodiac animal is the cat which, in legend, was barred from becoming one of the official twelve animals because of the rat's trickery. Kyo hates the current rat of the family, Yuki, as a result. The two constantly fight and Kyo loses every time.
  
  Ever since he met Honda Tohru, who admires the cat of Zodiac legend, he has expressed a soft side of himself. Kyo was always separated from the Sohma clan, including his parents, which is likely the cause of his short-fused temperament and stubbornness.            Hino is an overall considerate girl. She also has a strong sense of justice. This is shown when she defends Shoko Fuyuumi, a fellow music competitor, from three other girls who were abusing Shoko. The three girls were saying that Shouko didn't play well, but Hino stood up for her.

It also appears that Hino does not concern herself with romantic thoughts. There were a few incidences where her friends often asked her which of the boys participating in the contest did she like. Only at those times did she ever show any reaction. Because of this she is rather oblivious to the other boys' feelings.           

Misaki Ayuzawa

The protagonist of the story, Misaki is the first female Student Council President at Seika High and known for her extremely demanding and aggressive attitude towards boys, relentlessly attempting to reform them to live up to what she considers are acceptable standards of behavior. Though many of the male students fear and even hate her, the ones who get to know her come to see that she's actually very fair and willing to help anyone who needs it. She eventually becomes widely respected for her exceptional academic ability, her great athletic skill, and her many accomplishments as President. Her negative attitude towards males is mostly attributed to her father amassing with a huge debt and then disappearing; Misaki became determined to make sure her spacey and helpless mother, Minako would not have to work so hard to support both Misaki and her younger sister, Suzuna . To this extent, she secretly and, at first reluctantly, works as a maid-waitress at Café Maid Latte. Misaki is always driven to do her best regardless of the endeavour, and has a strong sense of justice, though she also has a tendency to forget her own well being in the process of helping others. She gradually develops feelings for Usui Takumi, but refuses to acknowledge them until volume 7 of the manga, when she tells Usui how confused she is about her feelings when he is around her. After Misaki is re-elected as President, she finds Usui on school's roof, and he stands behind her with his arms around her waist; though he tells her she can run away if she dislikes it, she doesn't, saying "it's not like I hate this," to which Usui responds "I don't intend to let you run away, Ayuzawa."

Kazuki is an outgoing person and is extremely friendly to others. He has little sense of social boundary. During his time in middle school, he was in the track team but pulled out to play the trumpet in the school band.

He explained to Kahoko that one day he went to the rooftop to have lunch, however when he arrived, there was a female senior playing the trumpet. He was amazed at how she played. Soon after, she was there every time he went to the place to have his lunch. Later, she brought a trumpet she borrowed from the school’s music room. This finally allowed him to have a try on playing the trumpet. Nevertheless, at that time, he already joined the school’s track team and he was reluctant to leave and join the school band. However, in the end he had his friend’s support and quit the track team.

Kazuki has an enormous appetite, as he is constantly eating. He quickly befriends Kahoko. Because of him, Kahoko learned the true meaning of music, that it is enjoyed by everyone. After that Kahoko began to love and enjoy music better. In the middle of the series, he starts to call Kahoko "Kaho-chan", instead of the usual "Hino-chan", thus suggesting he has a rather obvious crush on her. He is the first one to realize he likes her, and becomes overly concious of her afterwards.

                                She is a large fan of Utau Hoshina, giving her a large part in making Utau good again. You usually see her posing for pictures for her dad to take of her singing, however she can also be seen begging Amu to either play with her or give her something. Ami always calls the Guardian Characters Shugoi Chara, meaning "Great Characters" Ami's name in japanese means "beautiful"
